A slotted panel is a flexible, space-saving solution for presenting products in shops, showrooms and at trade fairs. However, the panel's load-bearing capacity and possible uses depend largely on whether the grooves are fitted with plastic strips or aluminum strips. The right choice depends mainly on the weight of the products and how the store fixtures will be used.
Plastic strips – an economical solution for lightweight products
Plastic strips are a simple and cost-effective option for displaying smaller, lightweight products. They give the grooves a neat finish and can be chosen in a color that matches the slotted panel or the rest of the store's interior.
Plastic strips are particularly suitable for lighter goods and decorative items. If the slotted panel is to be used for shelves, clothing, shoes or other heavier products, we recommend using aluminum strips instead.
Aluminum strips provide greater strength and stability
Aluminum strips reinforce the grooves and distribute the load more effectively across the panel itself. For this reason they are the obvious choice for retail stores where the panel will be used for, for example:
- Clothing on hooks or front arms
- Shoes on shelves or shoe displays
- Bags and accessories
- Product shelves
- Other heavier items
Aluminum strips also provide a neat, professional finish that fits well in most modern retail environments.
Position the load in the middle of the slotted panel
Heavier items should, as far as possible, be positioned in the middle of the slotted panel. We recommend avoiding heavy loads right at the outer edges of the panel. Such loading can cause the panel to bend or twist, and in the worst case both the groove and the panel can be damaged.
This is especially important when using long shelves, heavy hooks or brackets where the item's weight is placed some distance away from the panel itself.
Edge trims can stabilize the panel
The slotted panel can be stabilized with edge trims along the sides. Edge trims give the panel a neat finish while helping to protect and support the outer edges.
When installing several panels side by side, joins and edge profiles can also help create a more uniform, finished appearance.
Additional fastening for heavier items
If the slotted panel must carry heavier items, the aluminum strips can advantageously be secured further with through screws. The screws are mounted through the aluminum strip itself and into the substrate behind it.
It is important that the screws are anchored in a stable substrate – for example a wall, batten or other load-bearing construction. The necessary fastening always depends on the panel's size, the wall structure and the expected load.
