Descaler - How to descale your steamer or garment steamer
Important!
You should enjoy your steamer for many years, so it needs to be descaled regularly.
Our steamers can be descaled with white vinegar or a regular descaler from the grocery store.
Why is descaling important?
Your steamer is one of the most used tools in the wardrobe – and like the coffee machine at home, it needs a little maintenance to keep working optimally. Scale from the water builds up inside and can over time reduce steam power and, in the worst case, damage the machine. Fortunately, descaling is easy and only takes a few minutes of your time.

After descaling, remember to flush the scale out through the bottom plug of the machine and ideally steam once with clean water so no descaler gets on your clothes.
For most of our steamers, it’s a good idea to use distilled water, as the steamer will then scale much less. The exception is the Steamer – Elite and Steamer – Prof. models. They have an automatic stop that detects the water via minerals, so for these you should use tap water or 50% tap water and 50% distilled water. Read why
How to descale a steamer – 4 easy steps
1.
Empty the machine and the water tank of any water.
2.
Pour white vinegar/water (1:1) or a regular household descaler into the water tank in the mixture ratio specified on the product you are using.
Leave the machine to sit overnight.
3.
Empty the tank and the machine of the solution.
Remove the water tank and unscrew the plug at the bottom of the machine.
4.
Rinse the machine thoroughly from the top (where the water tank sits) and out through the bottom plug.
Screw the bottom plug back onto the machine, fill the water tank with clean water and reattach the water tank.
Tips for the future
- Use distilled water instead of tap water to significantly reduce limescale buildup. If you have the Elite or Prof. model, however, you should use tap water or a 50/50 mix. See why
- Remember to steam once with clean water after descaling so there is no descaler residue on your clothes.
- Descale regularly – the more often you use the steamer, the more frequently you should descale it.
