Aluminum or Plastic Trims for Grooved Panels – Which Should You Choose?
The slatwall panel is a flexible, space-saving and attractive solution for displaying products in shops, showrooms, at trade fairs and many other places. You can display most products on the panel and they can be built to carry both heavy and light items. Please note that the panel's load capacity and possible uses depend, among other things, on whether the grooves are fitted with plastic strips or aluminium strips. The right choice depends mainly on the weight of the products and how the panels are used. Plastic strips – an inexpensive solution for lightweight products Plastic strips are a simple, neat and cost-effective solution for displaying lightweight products and/or items on peg hooks. The plastic strips give the grooves a neat finish and can be chosen in a colour that matches the slatwall panel and the store's other fittings. Plastic strips are especially suitable for lighter items and decorations. If the slatwall panel is to be used for shelves, clothing, shoes or other heavier products, we recommend aluminium strips instead. Aluminium strips strengthen the grooves and distribute the load better across the slatwall panel. They are therefore the best choice when the panel will be used for: · Clothing on u-hanger bars, front hang and shelves · Heavier items on shelves · Heavier items in general In addition to greater strength, aluminium strips give the grooves a neat finish and can be chosen in a colour that matches the slatwall panel and the store's other fittings. A few tips! Heavy items should, as far as possible, not be placed right at the edge of the slatwall panel. The load can cause the board to give way and, in the worst case, both the groove and the slatwall panel can be damaged. This is especially true when using long shelves, heavy-duty hooks or brackets where the item's weight is placed far forward on the accessory. The way the panel is mounted also affects its load capacity. If the panel is mounted solidly to the wall, the wall helps stabilize the panel board. Therefore pay extra attention to adequate fastening with screws when the panels are to be used for heavy items. Edge trims can stabilize the panel and provide a neat finish The slatwall panel can be stabilized with edge trims along the sides. Edge trims give the panel a neat finish and also help protect and support the outer edges. Choose the trim according to the application Application Recommended solution Lightweight products/hook items Plastic strips and edge trims Decoration and simple displays Plastic strips and edge trims Clothing, shoes and regular store items Aluminium strips and edge trims Shelves and heavier items Aluminium strips with extra fastenings and edge trims Load close to the panel's outer edge Aluminium strips with extra fastenings and edge trims
